Just A Thought for February 8February 8, 2016
“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness…” (Revelation 1:5). In the Greek the word witness is the word martyr. It can mean both witness and martyr. Jesus bore witness of the Father. His works bore Him witness. A witness is one who provides evidence or proof of something. Jesus came as evidence of the one true and living God. What Jesus did was witness to what the Father does as Jesus only did what He saw the father doing. He bore witness to the truth. Grace and truth came through Jesus.
“I [Jesus] am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me” (John 8:18). Jesus bore witness to the plan of God through His death. He was both a witness and a martyr. Jesus died because of His witness of the Father. He was the One whom the Father sent to take away the sins of the world. And His witness is faithful. It’s true. See Jesus—see truth.
