The Firstborn of the Dead

country road

And from Jesus Christ… the first begotten of the dead…” (Revelation 1:5). Jesus was the firstborn from the dead. He died on the cross, but the proof was in the resurrection when Jesus became the first one to be born from the dead. It was one thing to die on the cross. That was important because on the cross Jesus bore our sins and diseases, took away condemnation and guilt, justified, sanctified, and gave us the gift of righteousness. This is all under the finished work of Jesus. But God had to raise Jesus from the dead in order that He could be the firstborn of many brothers and sisters to follow thus proving the power of the cross.

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29). That is our hope. God will also raise us from the dead as well. Jesus was the first and those believers who die will also see resurrected life.
