Just A Thought for March 1March 1, 2016
Under the Old Covenant everyone was considered servants. Jesus raised His disciples to a new category. “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15 NKJV). A friend is a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection. After the cross, however, the new covenant ushered in even a closer relationship with God—as a child. Through the new birth we were are no longer servants or friends, but children of God. We have the most intimate relationship with God through the finished work of Jesus. We are part of the family of God.
“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6).
