Take The Bread in Remembrance of Me

bread of communion

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22:19 NKJV). At the Last Supper in the upper room, Jesus took bread which is symbolic of His own body and gave it to the disciples. Thus He instituted what we call Communion or the Lord’s Supper. We do this to remember what Jesus did for us in His body, which was broken, beaten, spit on, pierced, punched, and shamed for us. By His stripes we are healed. Because He took the guilt, shame, and condemnation, we don’t have to. We take the bread in remembrance of Him. It isn’t about us at all. It’s our recalling what He did in His human body on the cross, because God so loved us.
