In Whom I Am Well Pleased

Matthew3_17

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). Before Jesus even started His ministry here on earth, the Father was already showing how pleased He was with Jesus. The Son pleased the Father. He voiced it aloud from Heaven. That must have been awesome to hear. Even though we probably won’t hear an audible voice from Heaven, the Father is also pleased with each of His sons and daughters. Another translation says, “In whom I delight.” To delight is to take great pleasure, be excited with, be joyful with, and to even be amused with. God takes great pleasure in each of His children. Even when we make mistakes we please the Father because we are in Christ. The Father sees us in Christ. It’s not our performance. It’s Jesus He sees. The Father revealed His pleasure with Jesus apart from any performance because Jesus had not yet done anything. You can’t perform or work to make God pleased any more with you. He already is pleased with you, without you doing a thing. It’s grace.
