The Power of Your Tongue

power of the tongue picture

Your tongue is an interesting part of the body. According to WebMd, ‘the tongue is vital for chewing and swallowing food, as well as for speech.’ Besides that, the tongue contain taste buds responding to the four common tastes—sweet, sour, bitter, and salty.

Since we’re created with a speaking spirit as we saw the other day, it’s interesting how useful our tongue is yet how potentially dangerous it can be. Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Even James talks about the tongue being a small part but it has the potential to set fires because of what is allowed to come forth. It’s time we learn to tame our tongues, especially as believers who walk in the New Covenant of God’s love and grace. It’s time we align our hearts and mouth with our New Covenant provisions through Jesus. THAT’s when we can speak God’s promises into our lives and into the lives of others. Use the power of your tongue wisely, bringing grace, peace, hope, and life to your hearers.
