Follow Me And Forget The Excuses

follow Jesus

But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead” (Matthew 8:22). So what was Jesus saying when He told the young man that wanted to follow Him but that he first needed to bury his father? His father hadn’t died yet. The young man was just going home to wait until his father died and then bury him. Jesus told the young man that anyone could bury the physically dead even the spiritually dead. But following Jesus meant eternal life. Following Jesus is a higher calling. It would be far better to accompany Jesus on the road to the abundant life. “And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Mark 8:34). The path Jesus is on is a different path than you may be used to walking. Here Jesus is saying accompany me along this path I’m on. When the road gets steep, I’m there to help you. When we walk through the valleys, I’ll always be there with you. Follow Me and forget the excuses.
