Knowing Their Thoughts

Knowing their thoughts

And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?” (Matthew 9:4). When Jesus told the paralytic his sins were forgiven, the scribes said to themselves that Jesus was a blasphemer. They considered that as speaking evil. The paralytic heard good news of the gospel. The religious folk heard nothing but a man saying something only God can say and therefore spoke evil. It is a matter of where the heart is tuned. The scribes were listening to a different frequency than what Jesus was on. Jesus was speaking life—they heard death. Some people have their heart closed to hearing what the Spirit is saying to the churches. They hear grace and call it evil. But Jesus knew their thoughts. Whether you call it a word of knowledge or the Father told Him or Jesus was operation as the Son of God, He knew they were thinking evil of Him. “For the word of God is…a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). The living Word looks at the heart. Jesus would confront them right in the heart of the matter.
