When Jesus Speaks We Listen

Jesus-said

“Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God” (Matthew 4:7). Remember that old commercial that said, “When E. F. Hutton talks, people listen.” When Jesus said something, it meant a whole lot more. It’s the Word speaking through the eternal Son. Every word has meaning and inspiration to work life in the hearer. We must deal with each phrase Jesus used in the light of the hearer or audience, and how it applies in relationship to the cross. Here Jesus was speaking to the devil. Some say that the devil is just a representation of evil. There is no real devil. Jesus didn’t seem to think like that. The devil knew Jesus and Jesus was speaking to a real devil who was trying to throw off His ministry from the start. Jesus spoke directly to the devil, not in His own words but in the words of established scripture. From the age of five Jewish children learned the Torah, both reading and memorizing it. Jesus also would have learned the scriptures. The scripture is that important and why we also need to be in the scriptures that are what Jesus said. When Jesus talks, we listen.
