Fishers of Men

net-fishing

And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee and saw Simon and Andrew casting their nets into the sea to catch fish. I remember singing a song in Sunday school, “I will make you fishers of men.” I enjoyed fishing for trout in Lithia Park when I was young. They would plant them and on a certain day would open the park for kids to fish. I don’t like to eat fish although I will eat canned Albacore tuna and sometimes tilapia. The fishing Simon and Andrew were doing was the casting the net kind of fishing. When Jesus walked by He yelled to them to follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. I’m sure they didn’t know what that meant but they immediately dropped their nets and followed Jesus. Whether we cast a net or use a pool and a lure figuratively we are trying to catch people and bring them into the kingdom. What a picture of witnessing and missions. There are still plenty of fish to catch. Take time to enjoy fishing for men.
