Great Faith

Colorado red rocks Gardens of the Gods

Only two times in scripture did Jesus say a person had great faith. Both were non-Jews, one was a man and one was a woman. One was a Roman soldier, and one was a housewife from Canaan. Neither would give in to doubt. Both were asking Jesus on behalf of someone else, one for a servant, the other for her daughter. Both just simply believed. “When Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” (Matthew 8:10). “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” (Matthew 15:28). If you read these accounts you would be hard pressed to see what the difference was in being of little faith and being of great faith. Great in the Greek is “megas” where we get our word “mega.” In the eyes of Jesus, their faith wasn’t just large, it was mega. It was exceedingly great. It was mighty strong. That’s where we all want to be. They had great faith simply believing what Jesus could do and would do for them. And He did. And He will do the same for us.
