In The Beloved

The Beloved Son Picture

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). When John baptized Jesus in Jordan, three things happened. First, Jesus fulfilled all righteousness. Second, the Holy Spirit landed on Him like a dove. Third, the Father spoke from heaven. He didn’t say “You are my beloved Son,” He said, “This is my beloved Son.” The Father made the first statement concerning Jesus and directed it to all those who were within earshot. The only begotten Son now becomes the beloved Son. Jesus would now begin His rather short ministry here on earth as the beloved Son well pleased by the Father. Jesus hadn’t done anything yet, but the Father was pleased. He was pleased not with His works but with who He was and what Jesus would do. Jesus was the first beloved Son. Through the New Covenant we all have become the beloved sons and daughters of the Father. New Testament writers use the word beloved quite frequently by the as they refer to the children of God. See yourself as dearly beloved and well pleasing to the Father.
