Children Of Praise

children praising the Lord

But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant” (Matthew 21:15 NKJV). Jesus was healing the sick in the temple after He rode into Jerusalem. The kids were all shouting “Hosanna” which in the Hebrew, means “save, we pray.” The religious leaders hated hearing this. They hated Jesus and would soon crucify Him. The children, however, knew Jesus was more than a mere man. In fact, when the chief priests and scribes complained to Jesus, He quoted scripture. “Jesus said to them, Yes. Have you never read, Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise?” (Matthew 21:16 NKJV). Jesus quoted Psalm 8:2 “Out of the mouth of babes and infants hast thou ordained strength.” Jesus changed the word strength to praise which aligns itself to the Septuagint version. In another place Jesus is quoted as saying, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants” (Matthew 11:25 NASB). “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein” (Mark 10:15). We often hear the indignation of the religious, but we come as children of God’s amazing grace.
