One Bag At A Time

carrying one bag of potatoes

I like the illustration Courage With Grace website gave regarding challenges: “When Bill Hybels was a kid his father made him unload bags upon bags of smelly potatoes. Bill complained to his father about the number of bags that still remained. “Don’t worry Billy,” his father said, “you only have to unload them one bag at a time.” Anytime you face a challenge take it, ‘one bag at a time’.” We’re all subject to challenges in our lives. We don’t have to let them undo us, and we already know that complaining doesn’t really help or alleviate the challenge. It’s like Paul said in Philippians 4:8-9, to think on things that aren’t negative but lovely, things that are right and true, again not the negative challenges. When you get right down to it, it’s a matter of not dwelling on—thinking or worrying—about the obstacles and challenges but relying on the overcoming power and grace of Jesus who will see you through those times. No matter what you face, take things ‘one bag at a time’.
