Reasoning In The Heart

think with your heart-1 pic

But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?” (Mark 2:8 NKJV). When Jesus told a paralytic that his sins were forgiven, the scribes began reasoning how Jesus had the audacity to say that. Jesus said they were reasoning in their hearts. The heart is where we decide what to believe. The scribes had their belief system all neatly in place and Jesus came along and pushed their believer button a whole different way. How could someone forgive sins? Only God can forgive sins. Yes, scribes only God forgives sins. So what did that make Jesus? You aren’t listening. Unfortunately they didn’t get their hearts in line with God. The heart is always at work reasoning out things that go against our beliefs. A stubborn heart refuses to believe the word. When confronted with the gospel of grace, for example. it balks and says wait, what about law? When grace is so ensconced in our hearts, we must reason any word contrary to it out as not what God has proclaimed. Be aware of your reasoning and always align it to New Covenant truth.
