Trying Harder Isn’t The Way To Life

Believe in God

A couple of days ago we talked about Jesus saying we should deny ourselves and take up the cross. We said that was basically a call to salvation. This verse goes on to amplify that meaning. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it” (Matthew 16:25). If you don’t put aside your own idea of salvation and try to save yourself, then you aren’t going to find true life. If you decide that your way isn’t working and that you should go God’s way through Jesus, then you will find life. Denying yourself doesn’t mean trying harder. No matter how hard you work to get your salvation, you will miss it. If you lose the whole idea that you are good enough, smart enough, or even think there is no God and repent from that thinking, and align yourself with God’s ways, you will find what you really desire—life abundant, life eternal, and life overflowing. There is no profit in gaining the whole world and losing your soul. Don’t work at it, just believe it.
