Forgiven

Forgiven stamp

“14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:14-15). These words from Jesus sound like forgiveness is conditional on your forgiving. Jesus was talking to Jewish people living under the law. Jesus made living by the law impossible. He did that on purpose because the whole purpose of the law was to bring people to a realization that they couldn’t keep the law. This verse is an example. Jesus says you have to forgive—everyoneor your heavenly Father won’t forgive you. Does that sound like law or grace? Can you even know who you need to forgive or not? “Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins” (Acts 5:31). “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins” (Acts 13:38). Through the finished work of Jesus you have full pardon and forgiveness. Your status with God—marked forgiven.
