Godliness Is Profitable

For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8 NKJV). A couple of days ago we asked the question, what is godliness and what does it look like. In this verse we see according to Paul it’s profitable whatever it is. Not only that, it is advantageous for the now and the life to come. So if it’s profitable in all things, then what is it? One thing we know is that Jesus died for the ungodly. “For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6 NASB). Jesus died for the ungodly so therefore the ungodly are no longer ungodly, but godly. We are reborn into a new creation, one who is a child of God. We are born into this godliness. It becomes part of our spiritual DNA and becomes part of our new nature. There is nothing we can do to affect our salvation for good or bad. We can’t be godly to please God because He is already fully pleased with us through Jesus. Through godliness then, we are both profited and profitable for Jesus in this world.
