“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10 NKJV). Love began with God. We can love because He revealed love and He displayed love through sending His Son into a fallen world for the express reason to be a propitiation for our sins. In the pantheistic time of the Greeks, it meant something to appease the gods. It was to be propitious showing favor. Through the sacrifice of Jesus God has vindicated us and has shown favor or grace instead of the punishment due our sins. It was love that sent Jesus to us. It was love that Jesus went to the cross and died for us. It is love that removed the sins and replaced it with grace.
Because He loved us, we can love him. Love is a response to the favor and grace shown us through the finished work of Jesus. Shine forth His love and grace to the world today.
