“16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NASB). Not only are we perfected by the Word, it equips, thoroughly furnishes for good works. It’s the Word of God that equips us. Schooling and education are good, especially when based on the Word, but it is the scriptures themselves that change our lives. We have the mind of Christ, but we have to renew our minds. We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, but we need some training in what that righteousness is, how it operates in us, and how it manifests through us to the world. That all comes through the teaching of the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God. God empowers the Word to make the necessary changes in us to reach the world with the message of His grace. The Word equips us to do the work He has for us to do. He never gives us a work without a way—by faith, otherwise it just self, trying to do something for God without His equipping—dead works.
