Just A Thought For April 8

“(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)” (Ephesians 5:9). The translators put this phrase in parenthesis. But I think it’s more than a footnote and a parenthetical thought. This shows us what the Spirit of Grace is all about. He is working goodness, righteousness, and truth within us. These attributes of God through Christ become our attributes. We are goodness, righteousness, and truth. When we see, “But to do good…” (Hebrews 13:16), it not for us to try to do but who we are in Christ. Do the good that is in you by grace. What we do is an out working of who we are. Jesus “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38). Jesus didn’t do good because the Father said for Him to do good or else. Jesus was good. He was the embodiment of goodness. He is the fountain of goodness. The same holds true for us. We are in Him and everything we need to be is in us. We just have to bring it out by allowing the Spirit to perform His implementation of grace in our hearts to become what we can be—in this case, good.
