Marred Vision

You know how it is before the sun fully comes up each morning—rather dark with only a hint of brightness and warmth to come. But sometimes and especially on cloudy, dreary days we tend to only dwell with the cold and dull and we fail to see the beauty and warmth we have. That reminds me of the 12 spies in Numbers 14:9 that Moses sent out. All 12 men had good eyesight and when they entered the new land, they all saw the huge grapes, probably the huge houses, and other plentiful things to enjoy. But all them processed the scene differently. Some saw only the scary things—the giants, the obstacles—because they allowed fear to enter into their thinking with its dreariness. It marred their vision.

Joshua and Caleb didn’t see things the same way. They saw the giants as easy obstacles to overcome—as bread—because God was with them. They let God’s Word be the prism for their thinking, believing, and seeing. It changed what would otherwise appear impossible to possible, what otherwise would be sure defeat and annihilation to victory. Are you allowing the prism of God’s Word to change the world you see?
