Press On

We’re knee-deep in summer here in Georgia, but we’ve had a reprieve for several days and it’s been wonderful. What type of reprieve you ask? A reprieve from the smothering, hot temperatures AND humidity. It’s truly felt like Fall, and no one is complaining! We know it won’t last, but it gives us a taste of what is to come in another month or so. It spurs us on to make it through the remainder of this summer. It gives us hope for cooler, bearable temperatures with fluffy white clouds floating by and eventually colorful leaves descending on our yards.

In the middle of our ‘seasons’ it’s often difficult to think beyond where we are at the moment because we’re stuck and surrounded by what seems like tons of things vying for our attention and time. That’s when it’s easy to become discouraged, but that’s NOT the time to give in or give up. It’s the time to dig your roots deeper, enjoy what is present as you look forward to what lies ahead. Soon today will be just a memory. You’ve got to live in the present and enjoy each day as you continue to press on. Paul put it this way in Philippians 4:13-14, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Even through the heat and humidity of summer, through storms, through things unexpected, press on. And while you’re pressing on, press into God’s Word for the extra strength and grace you need to sail through the hurdles of everyday life. Just remember that you’re not alone because Jesus goes with you. Enjoy your todays.
