From Renovation to Renewal

No matter the size of a renovation project, there’s going to be a mess before everything is completed. We went through that recently when we built a closet into an existing space in a bedroom. Before we could start, though, we had to remove all the things that were in the way and that resulted in extra clutter in the adjacent room. In spite of the initial clutter and mess, the renovation would improve the room. It reminded me of what Paul told the Ephesians believers.

They were in a renovation project in their lives as they transitioned from their old self to their new identity in Christ. He told them in 4:22-24: “In reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.” When you begin to renew your heart and mind in the gospel of peace and grace through Jesus, you’ll need to do some renovating. It’s okay.

Go with the renovations needed—renewing your mind in the Word. Sometimes that’s the best way to clear your heart and mind while you put things in order in your life. You’ll love the outcome.
