God Did Not Create Us To Follow Rules

God didn’t make us to follow rules, but to follow Him. In the garden, God wanted man to walk with Him—a relationship. The rule was to insure our freewill. “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:17 NKJV). It was a tree of the knowledge—knowing. God didn’t put a rule in their midst so He could catch them doing wrong. That theory shows up in many churches today. Adam and Eve didn’t need to know the difference between good and evil. Their conscience was free of that—until they took of the tree. Wanting to know good and evil was their downfall.

Living based on what’s right and wrong will always fail you. God didn’t make you to live by rules. He designed you to walk in fellowship with Him. You are the temple of God, walking in the spirit. Like Jesus said, “The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner” (John 5:19 NKJV). Just listen to the Word.
