Do you know who you are? You are probably a green olive tree…let me explain. The Psalmist made the reference in Psalm 52:8 that “I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the mercy of God forever.” What’s the significance of a green olive tree? The olive tree was the most valuable tree to the Israelites, and first mentioned in Genesis 8:11 when the dove returned to Noah’s ark with an olive branch. A mature olive tree is drought resistant, provides both olives and olive oil, and lives for many, many years. A green olive tree is one that is young and developing. That’s how the Psalmist saw himself, as a learner and follower of God. Even while learning, he continued trusting in God’s mercy and grace. Follow his example as the olive tree you are.
