And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15). It’s interesting that Jesus used the word “repent.” From the time I was a young child in Sunday school, repent meant to confess you sins. I never could understand that. Why was God so concerned about my sins when He had already forgiven me of my sins? That’s because the word repent gets back to how we think. Repent from the Greek word “metanoeō’ which means to change one’s mind. Jesus isn’t saying to confess your sins but to change your mind about how you see God and believe. He was telling the Jews, the king of the kingdom is in your midst, so change your thinking about what you have learned about God and see Him here standing in your midst. Every time we see how we have been thinking wrong about God, we repent by changing our wrong thinking to right thinking.
