“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” (Colossians 3:15 NKJV). Usually when you see a “let” in scripture, it partners with another word, in this case “rule” and it a present active imperative—let rule. Let has the idea of allowing, and not forbidding. Many people read imperatives as commands like a drill sergeant barking out commands. Paul is a pastor and the Holy Spirit uses that to pastor us. It’s like sitting down with Paul and asking him how to live in peace. He answers by saying, let the peace in you through Christ’s rule in your life and you will see peace in abundance. As a side note, KJV uses God and other translations use manuscripts, which say Christ. It is the peace of Christ, in you. Let it work its amazing grace in you to bring peace to every situation you face.
