“Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them” (Hebrews 13:9 NKJV). The writer to the Hebrews is wrapping up with various admonitions and suggestions. This phrase grabbed my attention—“heart be established by grace.” This is the key to the Christian life. To establish is to make secure, firm, and stable. To establish in grace is to make grace the foundation of your faith. It is to filter everything through grace. Make grace your focus and all the other things of the Word will fall into place. Nothing can move a heart established in grace. Regardless of the law-based or behavior-based teaching that comes from the pulpits of the day, grace will reign. We are saved by grace, and we live by grace.
