God

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” (Romans 2:4). When you think of the word “God”, what comes to your mind first? Is He the one who is out to get you if you do something wrong? As a child growing up in the church my parents attended, I had a vision of God as one watching wherever I went and held a baseball bat to hit me if I did wrong. It did have a measure of restraint on me. Many people see God as a wrathful, judgmental, harsh God. For the Jews who Jesus talked with, there was a strong hand of law that kept them shivering at the very thought of God. He would bless if obedient. Therefore, they had an external obedience. Jesus nixed that by saying even if you thought wrong you were guilty. However, all that is not who God is. Stay tuned.
