Just A Thought – June 2June 2, 2018
“And no one, after drinking old wine wishes for new; for he says, ‘The old is good enough’” (Luke 5:39 NASB). Jesus just talked about the fact you can’t put new wine in old bottles (wineskins). Therefore, Jesus said there was new wine coming. We know it as the New Covenant. Jesus ushered it in through His death, burial, and resurrection. The New Covenant was much better. We also know it as the Gospel of Grace. However, Jesus said there would be many who would say the old was good enough. Old wine tastes better than new, they would say. Many New Covenant believers still hold onto the old. It’s by grace that saves they must admit, but maintained by law. They still prefer the old wine. They still prefer the rules and regulations because they feel they can gauge their Christianity by their obedience to rules. They don’t like change. They aren’t sure that they can live by grace. Take a sip of the new wine and work out salvation by grace.
