“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” (Romans 2:4). Wow, Paul almost sounds angry. He is pointing out that the most important thing to know is the riches of God’s goodness, His tolerance, patience, and kindness. God is good. Those that say He hurts, causes cancer, accidents, bankruptcy, etc. are actually despising the God who is above all—good. He is patient above anything we can comprehend. Unless you know the goodness of God, you won’t repent. Repenting is changing your mind about who God is and the riches of His goodness. However, you say, He allows bad things to happen. God is not in control of bad things. He does not manipulate anyone’s freedom including yours. There is evil in the world and it will cause pain. Each believer can stand against the enemy and proclaim the name of Jesus and the riches of His goodness.
