When I worked in the corporate world, there were several fellas on staff who didn’t watch their speech. It always seemed when I was around they were apologizing for their ‘french’. I’m not sure they were Christians, or if they were, they weren’t able to bridle their tongue. Why is this important?
Proverbs has a lot to say about our tongues and our speech…James, also. But Solomon spoke great truth when he said “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” (Proverbs 18:20). Our tongues, our words, can be powerful or destructive. And this applies to believers as well as non-believers.
As believers, let’s make sure our speech lines up with the Gospel of Grace and speak words of life, comfort, grace, and love. It’ll make a difference in your life and for those who hear you.
