“Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4 NKJV). Peter talks about the “hidden man of the heart” (1 Peter 3:4). That’s where you have secret desires and petitions. Perhaps you have never told anyone about them. As you take delight in the Lord, He begins to work out the logistics of your desire.
I’ve often heard people teach, as you delight in the Lord, He makes His desires your desires. I don’t believe the verse teaches that thinking. He says the desires of “your” heart. These are your desires. As a believer, of course your desires will be Biblical desires and reflect the love of God in you.
Maybe He has placed a desire in you from early childhood. He wants to grant your petitions and desires. He isn’t trying to keep things from you. I know as a father, I want to grant my children’s wishes, if possible. He shall give you the desires of your heart.
