“Your word I have hidden in my heart …” (Psalm 119:11 NKJV). When I was young, I attended a Pentecostal church who believed in the Word. My mother allowed me to join a Baptist boys group called Boys Brigade. We wore military style uniforms and could increase in rank through participation and memorizing Bible verses. Since I’m always up for a challenge, I took the list of memory verses and began memorizing them. Course I started at the single verse ones such as this verse in Psalms 119. I climbed the ranks quickly and finally reached the top at master sergeant.
Besides being a lot of fun, I learned quite a few verses to hide away in my heart. They have served me well throughout my life. I have come to grow in the Word, through understanding and revelation of the meaning of verses. The heart becomes a repository of the Word. The heart is a place to mull the Word over and meditate on it.
