Thoughts Of The Heart

“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5). In this first mention of the heart in the Bible, we see the heart of man turned evil. We are only six chapters into the Bible and already since the fall of man, evil reigned in the heart of man. Here through the “thoughts” of the heart, man formed and fashioned ideas into evil intentions—continually.

The idea is that new ideas man came up with turned into evil plans. No one was coming up with good ideas or ideas leading to good. All this originated in the heart. Thoughts run through the mind and man resolves or determines in the heart—a plan to be carried to fruition. Jesus said, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts…” (Mark 7:21).
