“But has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Timothy 1:10 NKJV). Today we Americans celebrate our freedom. We celebrate the life we have here because of our freedom. We celebrate the lives of those who fought for our freedom from the earliest colonist to the modern-day warrior. We have freedom because of their sacrifice and service.
As important as that is, even more important is what Jesus did for us. He abolished death and brought life—spiritual death and spiritual life. Those who hear the gospel of grace and choose to accept it, have a new life—eternal life which begins here and goes on forever. God gave a choice through Jesus. We can choose life or death. We can make that choice because of the finished work of Jesus on the Cross. That’s true freedom. Celebrate the 4th with both freedoms in mind.
