Being Strong And Courageous

^“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NASB). You have probably heard the Michael W. Smith song “Be Strong And Courageous” if you listen to Christian music, and you should. He took it from Joshua 1:8.

I like the verses from Deuteronomy as it adds some important statements that fit the New Covenant view of God. There is no need to fear any situation because the Lord goes with us. In fact, He is in us. Where we go, He goes. Be strong and courageous isn’t another command we have to try to live up to in the Bible. The truth is, we can be strong and courageous because of the power within us. Courage within manifests itself as courage seen. It’s fruit of the Spirit within revealed as courage in our actions and attitudes. It’s being strong and courageous through Christ who strengthens us.
