“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV). Jesus didn’t just say Cheer up. He gave a reason for your cheer. Jesus overcame the world and all the associated problems. In the world—tribulation, but Jesus overcame the world.
When Jesus went to the cross, He took all our troubles with Him. He overcame thus depriving tribulation from the power to harm us. He conquered the world that we might have victory over the troubles we face. This is a promise and all the promises are yes and amen. We can cheer up because He has given us something to be cheerful about through every situation we might face daily. When trials, distress, pressure, and frustration sneak up on us, we can simple say: Cheer up. Jesus overcame that for me, now I can overcome it through Him.
