“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Paul always expresses his confidence when talking about the Lord. He is “confident of this very thing.” Then he goes on to say about what he is confident. Having become confident. At one time he may have not been sure about God. As a Hebrew, he knew God as the stern taskmaster. However, having come into a relation with Jesus, he now is confident.
Being confident is to be fully persuaded. It is saying I know I can trust Jesus no matter what the situation. Confident expectation is hope. Are you confident in the goodness of God? Are you fully persuaded that He is good all the time? Is your identity found only “in Him?” Are you confident in the Word, in His promises, and in the truth of the finished work of Jesus? Total trust—total confidence.
