“Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose” (Philippians 2:2 NASB). Here Paul used all of his persuasive power to persuade the Philippians to work together for one common purpose. I believe the Holy Spirit wrote this through Paul as a word to the church. This is the unity of the believers. Paul said his joy would be complete to see these things happen amongst the believers.
His hope was to see believers of the same mind—thinking the same thing. Since Paul wrote this, the church has become seriously fragmented in their thinking. He hoped they would maintain their love for one another. It’s by that love for each other that we draw the world to Jesus. Then we need to be of one spirit—fellow-souled. We should walk in the spirit together, all with the intent to see the world follow Jesus the savior. Let’s hope for that to be the heartbeat of the church today.
