Knowing Who You Are

Knowing the truth of who you are as a child of God goes hand-in-hand with your spiritual realignment and persuading your heart in believing God’s promises and possibilities. Identity is a big thing today in the world. More so, your Spiritual Identity is a major part of experiencing God’s possibilities today and all your tomorrows.

Too often believers come up short of their spiritual identity. They’ve accepted Jesus perhaps as a child, but that’s where their identity leaves off causing so many not knowing who they really are as child of God.

What do we mean by that? Once you’ve accepted Jesus as your Savior, you’re a child of God. You’re adopted into God’s family. Talk about a good family to be in! Becoming part of God’s family was in keeping with what God desired from the beginning and He continues to desire a personal relationship with man—with you!

Look at these scriptures:

Galatians 3:26 NASB – “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Galatians 4:5 NLT– “God sent him [Jesus] to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.”

Colossians 3:3, NASB – “For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

TRUTH: You are a son or daughter of God because of placing your faith in Jesus believing what He did for you. You’re a child of God, adopted into God’s family because of Jesus’s provision. You are IN Christ. When you receive this spiritual identity, your future changes dramatically. You’re a new you, no longer being ruled by sin which brings death (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Understand the more you focus on being a child of God (your position IN Christ), renewing your mind in this truth, the sooner you’ll see God Possibilities, and experience (know without doubt) just how much you are loved by God (John 3:16; Ephesians 3:17-19). You are precious, loved by your Heavenly Father (John 3:16). Later on we’ll go into a further study on being IN CHRIST, but the foundation you need now is the truth of who you are as a child of God.

APPLICATION: Until you make the Word personal to you, it will be just words. It’s important to meditate on these verses to further cement the truth of who you really are. That’s why we emphasize the importance of renewing our mind in God’s Word.

Galatians 2:20 NASB – “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

Make It Personal: I’m not the same person because Jesus lives in me. I live by faith in Jesus who died for me.

Romans 6:11, NASB – Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Make It Personal: I am dead to sin and alive to God in Jesus.

John 3:16 NASB – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

Make It PersonalGod loved me so much He gave Jesus, His Son, and because I believe in Him, I have eternal life.

2 Corinthians 5:17, NASB – “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

Make It PersonalBecause I am IN Christ, I am a new person. The old things are gone and He brings new good things.

Ephesians 3:17-19, NASB – “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love; may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”

Make It Personal Yes, Jesus dwells in my heart and I continue to be rooted and grounded in His love, learning more each day just how big and full God’s love is for me.

Ephesians 1:18, NIV – I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.”

Make It PersonalI believe my eyes and my heart are receiving greater revelation of the hope I have in Jesus and His riches I’ve already inherited.

ASK YOURSELF: Making the Word personal makes the Word alive IN you. It’s God’s words to you. As you meditate on His words, allow the Holy Spirit to give you further revelation as you continue reading the Word.

Can you say with thanksgiving and joy that “I am a beloved child of God”? You should be able to as you’ve let the Word take root in your heart.

How is the truth of Galatians 2:20 encouraging you?

How it is Galatians 2:20 helping you in transforming thoughts of the past?

How are you seeing the evidence of Ephesians 1:18 in your life?

How do you describe your life now as a child of God?
