We just touched the surface of 2 Corinthians 9:10 ESV last week, but there’s still more to receive, so let’s dig in again.
“He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”
We noted that God is our supplier—of seed to sow, as well as the supply of our sowing, and He multiplies what we sow. Notice the last part of this verse because it has great ramifications for your life: “increase the harvest of your righteousness.” Woah! Your righteousness can have a harvest. Did you realize that?
Hosea 10:12 also made a big statement looking ahead to Jesus’ coming when he stated: “Sow for yourselves righteousness and reap the fruit of loving devotion; break up your unplowed ground. For it is time to seek the LORD until He comes and sends righteousness upon you like rain.” During Hosea’s time people’s righteousness depended on if they did everything according to the law. Today, however, we are free from the law and walk in God’s grace through Jesus. He IS our righteousness.
But Hosea gave a profound truth when he said “sow for yourselves righteousness”. When you sow the righteousness of Jesus that says you’re loved and not condemned, you’re worthy, honorable, and highly favored, you’ll reap greatly.
Paul knew the righteousness that was solely from Jesus. He’d been transformed into a new person. Now he was stating that when you rely on God’s goodness, love, and provision through Jesus, you will increase in His righteousness. The depth of God’s righteousness through Jesus will be enlarged in your thinking and in how you operate in this world.
The more you can interact with people in God’s love and grace, the more you are increasing the harvest of your righteousness. It’s amplifying all the good that God is and has done—everything that Jesus accomplished for you, and others.
It’s time to step into the harvest of your righteousness. Continue to allow His righteousness to broaden in your heart and mind. You ARE the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
