Let’s dig in and glean further truth and encouragement from Psalm 91, and verses 9-13 NASB.
9 For you have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place.
10 No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent.
11 For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways.
12 They will bear you up in their hands, That you do not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and cobra, The young lion and the serpent you will trample down.
No one can make the Lord your refuge. It is something you need to do. It is your response to God’s love through Jesus, and all that Jesus provides through His life, His righteousness in you. Jesus is your safe place, your refuge, your fortress, your deliverer. When you said ‘yes’ to Jesus, He became all that you need. And His promises are yours. What are they?
Besides eternal life, He has your back! He states a fact that no evil will befall you or any plague coming near you/your household. He doesn’t say it depends on if you’ve been good enough or shared the Gospel with anyone this week. His promises are yes and amen, regardless if you operate in them or not. They are there for you, and always will be.
His angels are dispatched to protect and deliver you from all dangers. Whenever my family is on the road traveling, I always thank Jesus that His angels are standing guard around them, protecting and delivering them from dangers. That happened recently when our daughter and family were traveling across country in an RV. They had a major tire blowout on an interstate highway, but the Lord enabled them to get off quickly, and they were able to pull into a church parking lot. They were safe. And the Lord provided the necessary repairs to what was damaged from the tire blowing. It could have been much worse, but praise God His angels were on assignment, and our family was delivered.
Be assured His angels will guard you in all your ways, no matter where you go and what you’re doing at the time.
Years back Jack and I were hiking in the Smokey Mountains, and the trail took us up the mountain side and then we had to cross very rocky terrain with water flowing over the rocks. I was walking carefully on the slippery rocks when all of a sudden, I slipped and went down. Other than it shaking me up for a minute, I was fine. I didn’t even lose my hiking stick or have any injuries. I know His angels protected me from potentially something much worse—like falling all the way down the mountain on slippery rocks!
There are probably many times in your own life where God delivered you. You may not even be aware of all of them, but He is your protection—always. I hope your faith is expanding to trust the Lord more in everything in your life. He’s there 24/7, and He wants only good for you.
Verse 13 explains the power we have in Jesus. We can tread on the enemy, because we do so in HIS name. You should not fear anything that comes against you, because God is FOR you. You have His name and authority to trample the enemy of your soul. No weapon formed against you can prosper (Isaiah 54:17). That’s your promise of God’s protection. It is His love in action for you.
These are the promises and benefits of dwelling in the secret place of His love and righteousness. You’re cocooned in Jesus. You’re safe in His care.
