Psalm 91:1-4 NASB
“1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!”
3For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper And from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.”
As you read these four verses, I trust you get a real sense of God’s protection and covering over you, His beloved. He IS your refuge and your fortress. He is your place of safety. When everything else in the world is going to pieces, He is your safe place. In His presence receiving from His Word is protection, security, and peace.
Note that verse one says to abide in the shadow of God. How do you do that? Can you actually abide in a shadow? A shadow is a dark shape that appears on a surface when someone or something moves between the surface and a source of light. Abiding in the shadow is simply to stay where you are as God stands behind you. The shadow isn’t to be feared. You’re in His shadow. It’s like bullies trying to agitate a youngster and the youngster yells at them thinking he’s scaring the bullies off. He doesn’t see his shadow, his Dad, standing behind pointing to the bullies to leave.
Abide, stay, remain; in other words, don’t depart. When you remain in your position IN Christ, you’re secure. He becomes your fortress and your refuge—your hiding place, and nothing can assault you because you’re safe. Whatever verbal assaults come against you or anything else, you’re safe in Him because you are His beloved, and He thinks you’re the greatest.
Not only are you safe, He’s your deliverer. No matter what comes against you, Jesus will deliver you. No snare set against you can prosper. No deadly pestilence, plague, flu, or virus in the world can take your life. He’s there to deliver you every time.
Think of a mother chick with her little ones huddled under her protection and wings. That’s how you are with God. You’re sheltered from the chaos and danger of the world because you’re under His wings. His wings are your protection, and He is always (ALWAYS) faithful. Never forget that.
Continue meditating on these four verses. Receive them as His invitation to come often into His presence, to sit at His feet, and to receive His promises. Then you can stand strong in your faith and trust in Him.
“The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits”! (Daniel 11:32, KJV).
