We’re all susceptible to ‘what ifs’—those situations or circumstances that get our thinking going beyond where it needs to go. I’m sure you’ve been there, as I have. A situation arises, whether it is in your family, with your job, or related to your health. If we don’t ground ourselves immediately in the promises of the Word, we’ll be available for the damaging thoughts of ‘what if…such and such happens’.
What transpires in our thinking is we’re easily moved off from the Word. We’re close to believing the lies of the enemy. Anything he can do to get us away from settling on God’s promises, he’ll try, and he’ll do it with suggesting to us “what IF”.
That when we have to do what 2 Corinthians 10:5, NASB says. “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ”. Yes, we are to cast down imaginations—speculations—(those thoughts that create a negative scenario in our mind). We don’t entertain those thoughts or pictures because we want to see as God sees, and He isn’t moved by the lies of the enemy. He’s moved by His promises through His love for us. And His love isn’t based on any ‘what ifs’.
Be assured God sees us free from oppression, either by our own making or from others. He sees us from illness and disease. He sees us enjoying His provisions for all areas of our lives. So then, how are we to see? The same way God sees.
Let’s change how we see and react to situations affecting our lives. Let’s not be pushed over the illegal limit for ‘what ifs’.
Let’s get the Word of God’s promises so entrenched in our thoughts that there is no way a ‘what if’ scenario has room to blossom.
