The Path Of Life

There are some powerful words King David shared in Psalm 16, NASB. I think they are quite pertinent for our days right now.

While David asks for God’s protection, he also states a decision he’s made in verse 1: “Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.” He knows his place of security and protection. This is where we need to take our stand as well. Our refuge, protection, and stronghold during troubling times is IN our God. (For further backup, Read Psalm 91).

Notice in verse 5 he is specific of his inheritance. “The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup.” His inheritance is the Lord active and a part of his life. We know today that we have inherited all things through Jesus, so Jesus is our inheritance. He is our portion—everything we need. We received all that Jesus secured for us, so we are rich beyond measure.

Notice what he says in verse 7 as David continues to count his blessings and all that God has given. “I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; indeed my mind instructs me in the night.” God’s counsel is always the best, although sometimes we may fail to follow His advice. He is there during the night when everything around you is dark or confusing. He will give you counsel while you meditate on the Word, even while you sleep. Sometimes you’re not even feeling spiritual but a thought comes to your mind and you know what you need to do. That’s His counsel guiding and directing you.

Finally, notice in verse 8-10 he knows God’s presence and protection. “Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely.” No matter what comes against you, you don’t have to be shaken, upset, or troubled. Your life is securely in God’s hands, and He’s got your back. Even in the midst of the health epidemic in our world right now, God is your protection and your security. He will make known and direct your steps in the pathway of life that is full of His blessings, presence, and so much more.

You have nothing to fear when God is leading and guiding you each day. There is nothing to disturb your faith and trust in Him because He is there for you.

Let Psalm 16 fill you with new hope, encouragement, and trust of God’s goodness and protection in your life today and the days ahead.
