How do you fall in love with someone? Initially something about another person interests you. As you get to know the person and find like interests, you feel more comfortable in their company. The more time you spend with them, the more your relationship develops and you allow your heart to be persuaded of love. Isn’t that how we should develop our love relationship with God? Jesus came to express God’s love for man, not as a God far off, but as a man to identify with us. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. When we see His compassion, mercy, and grace, our hearts are persuaded of His love.
You can’t develop a deeper relationship with God if you don’t get to know Him. The solution is to get to know Jesus in His Word. The Gospels portray Jesus as caring, non-condemning, loving, and interested in each person He met. The Word, especially the New Testament, will persuade your heart of His love.
The bottom line is when you have an internal understanding of how much God loves you, you’ll be drawn into greater dimensions of His love. When you know the love of God, your life will change. You won’t walk around in shame, guilt, and unforgiveness. His love breaks the bondages that have kept you broken, hurt, and happy. Only His love can truly light up your life, fill you with meaning and purpose, and put a smile on your face and in your heart.
I like how Ed Elliott puts it. “When we experience who God is to us in our lives, we reflect those attributes of God’s character effortlessly”. Let’s open our hearts and minds and let God love us. Let’s allow God’s love to develop and grow even deeper in our heart. His love will transform our life, and we’ll be changed from the inside out. Then His love-relationship with you will touch the world as His love flows from His heart to yours and to others.
