Tapping Into The Source

It’s a fascinating process getting sap from a maple tree and turning the sap into maple syrup. It doesn’t sound very spiritual, but when we look further in this process we find a fascinating correlation of natural tree sap to our spiritual lives.

So, what can we learn from the sap of a tree? Understand first that sap is actually filled with nutrients and minerals. It is basically the blood of the tree. It is important to the tree for the obvious reasons: life. Sap carries energy out into all the branches, especially when new buds form in spring time. Sap is most important for new life.

Sap from trees generally flows early in the year and only between four to six weeks when daytime temperatures are above freezing. Rising temperatures creates pressure in the tree producing the sap flow. Trees with the greatest exposure to sunlight produce the best sap.

So, what can we learn from tree sap? Let’s put it into a spiritual picture. We’re the tree. We have the life blood of Jesus flowing in us as His child. The sap in us is His Blood. Every time we tap into what He’s done for us, we’re applying His Blood to our bodies and minds. Every time we tap into His Word and put it into action in our lives, we’re allowing life-giving energy from Jesus to flow through us and into our situation. His Word is life. His Blood is life for us. Jeremiah 15:16 ESV states, “Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart.” I trust that is your declaration also.

Don’t forget, the more you stand in the SONlight, the more you’ll produce His love and life to give to others.

It’s time to tap into the source – Jesus.
