God’s Rhythmic Grace

You most likely don’t think about it throughout the day—your heartbeat. The heart is a fascinating organ, pumping blood throughout bodies to keep us alive. Your heartbeat has a rhythm. When you’re doing something strenuous, your heart rhythm will increase and you’ll breathe heavier.

If you’ve ever been short of breath, you’ve felt your heart working harder, beating faster, giving you pause to stop and regain normal breathing. Different situations in our lives from time to time can affect our heart rate. There will be ups and downs in life, but God has given us a word to enable us to get through the difficulties.

His grace provides for those ups and downs in life. Matthew 11:28-30, The Message puts it this way: “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

His grace flows to us, in us, and through us. His grace allows us to rest in Him [trusting], no matter what is currently going on or what we have to face ahead. The key to living in the middle of any stress is applying this verse in our daily lives. As Joyner Briceño says, the Lord will empower you to rest in Him so you learn to live in the rhythms of His Grace.

His grace has a rhythm matching the situations and stress in our lives. When we draw on His grace, His peace calms our heart and mind. Understand the next time you face a stressful situation you can step into and match the rhythms of His Grace where you’ll find release and peace.
